Setups
What is a setup?
A setup is a series of adjustments to make a guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, etc... play
as well as it can.
How do I know if I need a setup?
There are several indicators here.
Does a new guitar need to be setup?
Usually, yes. Guitars are shipped from the factory in bumpy trucks, loaded and unloaded,
and in the process, they are thrown out of adjustment.
Why do some setups cost more?
Some setups take longer. 12 string guitars have twice as many strings. Floating tremolo
guitars have up to twice as many adjustments.

Fretwork
What's a fretdress?
a fretdress is when we level, recrown, sand, and buff each fret. Most of the time a
professional fretdress will have your instrument playing better than when it was new.
What's a refret?
A refret is when the old frets are too worn too be dressed, so they are replaced.
Once the new frets have been installed, they are dressed as described above.
How do I know if I need a fretdress or a refret?
Frets need to be replaced when they are too worn too be taken down anymore.
The rule of thumb here is when any part of the fret is less than 1/2 of the
original height of the fret, it should be replaced.
Can you dress or refret only a few frets?
Nethier is typically recommended. A partial dress can sometimes cause more problems
than it solves unless it's performed by an experienced professional. We can do them,
but the cost savings are negligible. Same story with partial refrets.
